Sam's Wedding Bouquet - Paper Flowers - PURPLE - BOOK ROSES

This is Sam's bridal bouquet in hues of purple, that is, book paper roses tinted in purple and accented with little shimmer purple flowers and pearls.

I used at least four different inks to get these purple tones. No matter how dark the ink was in its packaging, I learned that once it touches the paper it becomes pink. So, I also used deep dark inks, as well as jet black ink for some of the roses.

Sam also wanted roses made from music sheet paper, so you can see those in the pics below.

For what it's worth, I also found that the music sheet paper is easier to tint than the book paper.

Bring on the Freshness!! Pink & Green Paper Flowers Wedding Bouquet

This spring-like pink and greens bouquet came to exist on a midsummer's day after I couldn't resist making paper flowers from these beautiful designer papers.

A pink peony here,
a green rose there,
a book paper flower,
a touch of shimmer yellow
in the form of lace butterflies,
and little by little,
of all the bits and pieces,
something very bouquet-like was born ...

It is probably one of my favorite color combinations - it reminds me of a fresh sunny day about to rise over a green meadow :)

Anyways, here are more pics of the bouquet...

Red Aqua Paper Flowers Wedding Bouquet

Two years ago, I would have wanted a bridal bouquet just like this one... The color palette for our wedding was red, white and aqua, and this would have fitted perfectly.

Alas,... that's when I only started making paper flowers and didn't yet know how to fold a paper rose or create a paper peony... so my wedding bouquet was made of actual roses to which I added wired pearls.

Almost two years and thousands of paper flowers later, I'm still in love with this color scheme. It's dramatic and vivid and nothing contrasts blue so well as red.

For these flowers, I used only the best papers in a few shades of shimmer blues, lipstick red and shimmer white.

Inks and pearls complement the flowers, which are all wired, wrapped and tied together with a lovely turquoise ribbon.

I also added a blue polka-dot ribbon, just for fun :)

Hot Pinks and Turquoise Butterflies

I love saturated vibrant colors, and sometimes I like to mix them together to create something that pops up and catches the eye.

In this case - a wedding bouquet.

Or, it could be just a bunch of paper flowers in a simple vase, cheering up a room... you decide.

More Emerald Paper Flowers - Maid of Honor and Bridesmaids Bouquets

Inspired by Heidi's vision of emerald greens for her wedding, I created the remaining pieces of her wedding paper flowers: the bouquets for her Maid of Honor and her two bridesmaids.

The paper roses were made from the pages of a book, wired and wrapped and touched with green ink.

The other flowers were made from shimmer papers with added pearls and other embellishments.

I also made a few green butterflies with crystal accents to land on the delicate flowers and give that extra charm to these bouquets.

Blue Flowers, Blue Butterflies

While I'm creating roses and other flowers for a few upcoming summer weddings, I also feel the need to indulge myself in making a few other flowers on the side.

All from from paper, of course.

And what would flowers be without butterflies?

Here are the latest blue paper butterflies with crystals, wired and ready to hover over beautiful blooms.

Wine and Gold Paper Pomanders

For the last couple of months I have been busy making paper flowers to construct pomanders for summer and fall weddings. These two, for example, were made for Kim, who wanted flowers in burgundy, shades of rich red, and with highlights in yellow and orange, based on this paper flower sphere.

For the roses I used shimmer papers, polka-dot prints, solid reds and nicely inked each petal to give it a better definition.

The orange details are tiny flowers scattered between the roses, and the dashes of yellow are represented in the handmade butterflies with crystals.

You can see the Etsy listing here.

Purple Butterflies with Crystals and Turqouise Antenae

These handmade paper butterflies like to land on random flowers, hang around picture frames, rest between the pages of your favorite book, or look pretty in your scrapbooks.

Six of them hatched in one day, and hope to go to a nice person with lots of love for all things handmade.

Pretty in purple with touches of blue, white and crystals.

Please email me if you'd like to know more about them. Also, see them in yellow.

Thanks and enjoy!

hand-sewn paper butterfly - part II

I recently made a lilac paper butterfly and used a pretty red silk thread to stitch the pattern on the wings.

This butterfly is the smaller 5-6" version.

The idea is the same: paper-piecing, silk thread and wire to create the body of the butterfly.

It is painstaking work to create such prettiness, but I so love the final effect that I had to make this double as a wall art piece.

A small wire loop was attached at the back to allow the butterfly to land on your favorite wall piece, picture frame, or a paper flower you happened to have hanging around... :)

A whole bunch of snowflakes...

Today is just like any other Tuesday in the last few weeks - it's cold, it's white, it's snowy...

And what to do when you're all snowed in?

Well,
I like to punch out a whole bunch of butterflies and dots,
count to a 100 and
put them in pretty handmade envelopes.

Ok, other things, too.

...like these brand new vellum lamps I made for a special March wedding...

hand-sewn paper butterfly

The idea for this hand sewn butterfly came to me from the fabric sewn moths made by an artist that goes by the name of BlueTerracotta on Etsy.

I had some nice silk stitching thread and pretty lavender paper, so piece by piece, stitch-by-stitch, the butterfly got its beautifully detailed wings.

I added a bit of wire at the back to make it easy to hang on the wall.

Add more aqua to your life...

Maybe it's the snow casting blue shadows outside, or the color of the sky today, but it has me thinking in happy bluish tints :)

When you need a few blue touches to your day...

I shamelessly suggest these from my shop :)

Winter Colors Bouquet

The colors for this paper flowers bouquet were drawn from the feathers of a peacock.

...brilliant blues...
   ...shades of purple...
...a dash of pink... and
    ...rich hues of gold
are tied together
by
soft tender pearls...

Handmade paper butterflies land on petals here and there.

Vintage buttons adorn the centers of flowers in original shapes.

I used designer print papers, card stock, paper that shimmers, paper that folds ever-so-beautifully, tissue paper, inked paper...

Flower stamps and inks in many colors add that extra touch.

Lavender silk ribbon.

Aqua satin ribbon.

See it in my shop here.
