RED and WHITE - Wall Flowers

I created these Red and White paper flowers as wall decorations for a client's show room installation in Australia.

Materials:
  • Paper,
  • Pearls,
  • Wire, and
  • Glue.
Pretty simple as far as materials go, and yet the results are quite charming.
Paper wall flowers also in RED, WHITE and TAUPE.

Vanilla Cream and Turquoise FLEUR DE LIS

Sometimes a paper is so gorgeous that you don't want to cut it or mess with it in any way, always keeping it for something more special along the way.

My vanilla-colored fleur-de-lis-patterned paper fits in this category.

I enjoyed it too much to ever want to do anything with it. So it stayed untouched for a long time. And then, in one afternoon, I decided to finally use it for something pretty and meaningful and made these 3 paper flowers.

What makes these flowers so special?

  • Hand-cut petals, folded and inked, then glued into place to form the flowers;
  • Lovely silverish pearly beads for the centers;
  • Wired stems which can be twisted in any direction or form, or kept straight for easy displaying in a simple vase;
  • Most of all - this lovely lovely designer paper, evocative of rustic elegance and shabby chic awesomeness.

How To Make Paper Roses

Making roses from hand-cut paper petals is one of my greatest joys.

When the paper is right: pliable, heavy-weight and in a pretty color like this candy pink, the whole experience is all the more enjoyable.

There are countless ways to make a paper rose.

You could try the way Paula taught me (via her blog), or you could try this method I came up with this Saturday.

The tutorial is all mine, but you are most welcome to try it.

Enjoy!!

1 Corsage and 2 Pomanders

First I made a paper flowers pomander in pink, red and white roses, and then, on the behest of an Etsy client, I made its twin.

These two will go to a fresh and creative summer wedding in Cambridge, UK.

The latest project involved making a corsage for her wedding (to be worn by her young daughter).

I used a paper rose and petals made of vellum paper to create the flower, then glued it all to a satin ribbon which can be tied around the hand in a knot.

Peaches and Cream - Boutonierre

The person who bought my Peaches and Cream Wedding Bouquet also requested a matching boutonierre, and so I made one using the same designer paper, inks, buttons and lovely velvet and satin ribbon.

Here is the result.

Hot Pinks and Turquoise Butterflies

I love saturated vibrant colors, and sometimes I like to mix them together to create something that pops up and catches the eye.

In this case - a wedding bouquet.

Or, it could be just a bunch of paper flowers in a simple vase, cheering up a room... you decide.

Peaches and Cream

The shape of the paper flowers for this bouquet are brand new - I came up with it while I was thinking of something else.

What started as a prototype of the flower from a piece of cream paper soon evolved into a sophisticated bloom that requires all of one's skills (well not all, but certainly some), such as:

  • paper punching,
  • cutting,
  • inking,
  • gluing,
  • folding,
  • wiring,
  • wrapping ...
The other flowers are a variation of what I'm already familiar with, that is, peony-like flowers and tiny spray flowers, all wired and wrapped in white floral tape.

Cute buttons in pink and beige dot the centers of the flowers.

Yellow pearly butterflies hover about and bring life to this charming assembly of individually made flowers.

Note the variety of patterns, textures and details.

Made with such joy!!

Strawberry Blossoms

Something about this art piece by Amborela has me all in a spring mood (which this year came all to late to Massachusetts). I especially like the crocheted flowers attached to the canvas. There's really something in that... it makes me want to learn how to crochet... it shouldn't be too hard, right?

Green Orange Paper Roses in Re-Purposed Packaging

Give a plastic egg packaging a second life by letting it house pretty paper flowers.

In this case: half-a-dozen green and orange paper roses.

Use them to cheer up a small vase, to adorn gift boxes, as bookmarks, as napkin rings or anything else you can think of. The package also makes a charming gift in itself.

See my pink paper roses in an egg box, too.

Green LED Paper Flowers - Wedding Centerpieces

Some time ago I made a paper flower that glows in the dark with the light of 10 LED lights. I still keep it in my home - nothing better than some blue light on a winter night - makes everything more wintery :)

This time, I made 10 paper flowers with 20 LEDs in several shades of green - not just because I like to dabble in green, but because there's a creative March wedding in the works - a great event I'm happy to be a part of.

Anyways, these paper flowers, along with my favorite wall flowers will be the star decorations at the reception. They look pretty as they are, but especially enchanting when lit up.

I'm sending these babies to my friend Belinda, and come March, I'll post a few photos from the wedding, too.

Fire Palette - Paper Flower Pomander with Butterflies

Let's start 2011 with hot fiery colors -
I'm into reds, bright yellows and oranges... an homage to the magnificent outside fire we had at the cabin in the woods over New Year's.

Walls Touched by Lavender

Lavender, in scent and color, is one of the most soothing things.

I like it in my tea, I like it in my Dagoba chocolate, and I really like it on my walls.

Check out these new hanging paper flowers a.k.a. wall art pieces - made on winter afternoons.

Maybe it's the snow casting blue shadows outside, or the color of the sky today, but it has me thinking in happy bluish tints :)
